We can’t all create a Martha Steward-esque design in every room, every time the seasons change (not that we don’t want to…). Stack old suitcases to create a fun table and platform for your fall decorations!

Add a touch of whimsy to your dining area with an old chandelier, painted to compliment the room.

Repurpose a vintage wagon or wheelbarrow to display pumpkins, gourds and mums outside.

Use old candlesticks as a stage for displaying smaller pumpkins and gourds. This makes a great centerpiece!

Perhaps the most obvious reason is the constant sense of nostalgia we feel working with items that have been around longer than we have. There’s so much history in each piece and we’re endlessly inspired by our opportunity to preserve that small part of history and pass it along to you.

Another reason we are drawn to all things vintage is the comfort it brings us. So often in our lives we get to reminisce about childhood joys. Whether it’s a piece of furniture that reminds us of Grandma’s house, or a toy that we couldn’t get enough of so many years ago, the constant flow of creature comforts that have shaped who we are, are ever present at Vintage Market.

Lastly, we love how so many of these items transport us to a simpler time. Before the internet, and iPhones there were board games and radios. Vintage pieces help to remind us to get back to basics and appreciate how far we’ve come.

Kim Dye, owner of Vintage Market, is hosting an evening holiday open house in her own “home sweet vintage-style home,” decorated for the holidays in the Northland near Zona Rosa and you’re invited! This special event takes place on Friday, November 18th, 5-9 p.m. and benefits the Synergy House, providing a respite from violence for families and women in Kansas City.

“I can hardly wait for you to see what ideas we have come up with in my home, not only for the holidays, but for every day of the year, using vintage and new items, creating lots of tattered elegance,” says Kim.

Attendees of the open house are encouraged to plan additional time to visit Vintage Market North in Zona Rosa following the event, as the store will remain open that evening until 10 p.m. for inspired shopping. Attendees can present their admission ticket from the open house at Vintage Market North’s checkout counter and receive a special holiday gift too!

Admission is $20 and advance paid registration is required. Tickets are available at both Vintage Market shop locations or by calling Vintage Market North at 816.505.0500. “From Our House to Yours” will donate 25% of proceeds to Synergy House this holiday season.
