“O” is for Ottoman

A Fresh Foot Stool Prime for the Propping at Vintage Market, Kansas City

For those of you who are fans of vintage furniture with a fresh new take on upholstery, like we are, we put together a “Top Five O’s List” of ideas for how to incorporate this eye-catching foot stool, covered in “O” type-set inspired fabric at Vintage Market …

On-Demand Seating: With its smaller-than-expected size, vintage furniture often tucks nicely under its more modern counterparts and treasures like this one can be pulled out for extra seating when you need it.

Obvious Ottoman: Not just the easiest suggestion, but also because of its bold graphic print, the clear choice for this little gem is to place it at the foot of any chair for a cool change of scenery and great place to prop your feet.

On-the-Go Headquarters: A small bench can be an excellent central location for you and your family to place items you need a little help remembering to take with you in the mornings, stop to take off and put on your shoes, and – unless you can avoid it – collect your mail!

Ornery Boys’ & Girls’ Club: If you’ve gotta have a place for time-outs every now and then, you might as well have one that’s easy on the eyes when it’s not in use, right?

Open Door Policy Holder: Placing a small seating solution near the entryway of your home can not only prop open bulky doors with style, but can also welcome guests with a cheery and energetic print like this one.

“Oh, but what about this idea …?” Share your uses for a chic little ottoman with us!

Perfectly Framed Ferns

A Perfectly Framed Fern at Vintage Market, Kansas City

We just love the look of a classic fern. Not only to they grace the pages of countless textbooks and calendars as beautiful vintage botanical art, but they also convey an eco-chic sense of life that makes any room complete.

A well-appointed vintage mirror can take your everyday fern from boring to beautiful, just by popping the plant’s natural colors with its freshly painted frame. Similarly, placing a living thing in front of a chic framed mirror can double the visual impact and add to your home or office’s green space in a snap! Pop a freshly scented candle in front and, even if you suffer from a not-so-green thumb, you’ll have a peaceful and lush display inspired by nature.

Need a little inspiration or a jump start for your own great green space? Bring in your items and ask any Vintage Market employee for a little help and we’ll be glad to shop around with you for the perfect accent!

A Vintage Book Signing

” … Our favorite thing to do with family on Saturday nights was to listen to The Grand Ole Opry on the radio. As we listened to the country music, Dad and I would dance together to some of his favorite songs. Sometimes you could barely make out the songs, because there was so much static on the radio. We never had a television … ”

Vintage Takeover: British Edition

Antique Shoppers in the Telegraph

The world seems to be getting smaller and smaller every day, so it’s no surprise when trends catch on in more than one country. Naturally, we were excited to happen upon an article detailing the growing love for “antique fairs” in the UK. Think Vintage Market meets open-air flea market with a British flair!

According to the article, the recent increase in popularity is being attributed to more designers and celebrities talking about and buying vintage. This is attracting younger demographics to the fairs in search of the hottest vintage clothing and home décor.

We think the same things can be said for America’s vintage craze too. We have definitely seen more designers and young celebrities inspired by yesterday’s fashions and highlighting the many ways in which the past and the present can come together to create something totally unique. That’s what Vintage Market is all about, so of course we’re grateful for the free publicity!

So while we can’t say that we’ve cornered the world market on all things vintage, we also can’t say that we blame the rest of the world for joining in on the fun! It was the same passion that inspired us here at Vintage Market!

Kids’ Corner: Vintage Market Style

Vintage Bed from Country Living.comOne of the many joys of motherhood is the creation of a nursery and decorating children’s rooms! It really is a wonderful opportunity to combine your personal style with a touch of whimsy and youth.

Whether you want to construct the perfect space for your child, or are just looking for a great gift, Vintage Market is here to help!

Here are some of our favorite ways to incorporate vintage style into kids’ spaces:

1. Cribs: As the focal point of a nursery, finding a crib that is both attractive and functional is one of the most important considerations. Iron cribs are gaining popularity and can add a unique touch to any nursery.

2. Vanity: What more could a little girl ask for than her very own space to make herself feel pretty? Giving her a restored vanity is a great way to provide just that!

3. Books: It’s not easy to admit that most of the books we grew up reading, or having read to us, are now considered “vintage” (remember Little Golden Books?). But what better way to share our own childhood experiences with the next generation than to give our children a collection of vintage books?

4. Wall Décor: We love vintage posters and pictures, especially ones that depict Mickey Mouse, Winnie The Pooh, or any other figure that spans across several generations. Other fun ideas are mirrors or restored shelving for all of their little toys and knick-knacks.

We’re looking forward to helping you pass on your vintage inspiration to a new generation!
